10-year-old boy dies after hit by vehicle

SPANAWAY, Wash. - A 10-year-old boy died Thursday night after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike, said the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision happened around 6:45 p.m. at a home in the 155000 block of 66th Avenue East in Spanaway.

A boy on a bike was pulling out of a driveway at his friend’s house to return back to his home.

The Sheriff’s Office said the boy pulled out in front of a vehicle.

The 64-year-old driver stopped after the crash.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the boy was not wearing a helmet.

The boy was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, where he was dead upon arrival.

"At this point it just looks like a tragic accident," said Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ed Troyer. "There's nothing he could have done."
