KENT, Wash. - A 79-year-old Kent man was killed after he stepped into the path of a car early Monday morning, Kent police said.
He was trying to cross a busy five-lane road shortly before 6 a.m., police said. He was dressed in dark clothing when he walked in front of a car driven by a 63-year-old Kent man going westbound in the 14300 block of Kent Kangley Road.
Medics were unable to revive the pedestrian.
Investigators spoke to witnesses who said there was no sign that speed or weather contributed to the collision.
"At this time it appears that the pedestrian simply chose to cross this busy roadway while less than a block from a marked cross walk and traffic signals," said Kent Assistant Police Chief Pat Lowery.
Video from Chopper 7 showed a tarp covering a person on the street.
Traffic investigators were collecting evidence and mapping the collision scene.
