A devoted black Labrador stayed by the side of another dog that was struck and killed by a car, lying next to its friend on a busy Los Angeles street.
Neither dog had any identification tags.
The 2-year-old black Lab was taken to an animal shelter and named “Grace" when no one claimed her.
But KTLA reported that just hours before she was to be adopted, the Lab's owners contacted authorities.
They said her name is Maggie.
The owners will be cited for allowing her to run loose and won't be able to take Maggie home until authorities inspect their home.
