Katharine McPhee shows off engagement ring in a sentimental message about her dad

Katharine McPhee unveiled her engagement ring from fiancé David Foster in a bittersweet post.

“I’m ready to share with all of you what has been my sunshine amongst this painful loss,” the 34-year-old actress and singer wrote Saturday in an emotional Instagram message.

The photo shows a fresh-faced McPhee holding up her emerald-cut bling.

The engagement ring, McPhee says, symbolizes her last memories with her dad Daniel, who died last week.

“My dad was so happy for me," McPhee wrote. "My ring was the last thing I showed my dad before he passed and makes me smile when I look at this as a reminder of our last conversation.”

Despite her tremendous loss, the "American Idol" alum is looking ahead to a future full of love, thanks to some advice from her husband-to-be.

She wrote: “My love wisely said to me the other day that ‘death is the only thing that is 100 percent inevitable and the thing we are least prepared for.’ So today we’re celebrating life and not forgetting love."

Foster, 68, popped the question to McPhee during their European vacation earlier this month, Foster's representative Kimberly Jakwerth confirmed to USA TODAY.

Foster has been previously married four times. This will be McPhee's second marriage.

She announced her dad's death on Monday.
