Angela Russell Provides Insight to YWCA's GirlsFirst

April 20, 2012 — On April 9th and 20th, KIRO 7 welcomed the YWCA GirlsFirst program for a station tour and informational session. KIRO 7 Eyewitness News' anchor, Angela Russell, hosted the girls and guided them through the station. The participants had the opportunity to get a glimpse of how a television news station operates, and talk to reporters, cameramen and an assignment desk editor firsthand.

"We're definitely very grateful to have this opportunity, especially for the growth, to see a strong woman in a professional setting," said Mariela Barriga, the YWCA GirlsFirst program coordinator.

This was a wonderful opportunity for youth to gain insight into the broadcast news industry. By meeting with members of the local community, Angela supported youth education and ultimately gave invaluable advice that the girls can utilize in all aspects of life.

The mission of YWCA GirlFirst is to encourage leadership, instill confidence, develop skills, and provide opportunities to girls of color. For more information please visit: www.ywcaworks.org.
