SEATTLE —

The Seafair Torchlight Parade will feature a Grand Marshal with very deep Northwest roots.

Duff McKagan is a Seattle native who went on to musical success as the bass player for Guns N Roses.

He told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News his youngest daughter, 11-year-old Mae, was with him when he got the invitation email.

"I'm with my 11-year-old daughter, Mae, and I'm reading down and there's this parade, and I hadn't said yes or no. I said, 'Mae do you want to be in a parade, the Torchlight Parade, this year?' 'Yeah.' 'Like in a car thing?' 'Yeah.' 'Do you want to see the Blue Angels come in?' 'Yeah.' 'Do you want to ride in a boat?' 'Yeah.'"

"So that was really her reaction and for me, of course, it's a position: I'm more powerful than the mayor and the governor combined now."

McKagan said his favorite hydro as a kid was the Atlas Van lines; he even had a poster in his room.

McKagan said as Grand Marshal, he will require the Sonics to return to Seattle, use the Seafair Pirates as henchmen and plans to knight Chris Hansen with a (dull) sword.

You can see Duff McKagan and the Torchlight Parade live on July 28 on KIRO 7 and kirotv.com.
